LORI SAMMARTINO

Italian, 1924 - 1971

Lori Sammartino was an Italian photojournalist, active from the ’50s to the early ’70s of the past century. Born in Rome in 1924, she worked for the magazine Il Mondo, founded and edited by Mario Pannunzio. While she was alive, she had published three books: amore a Roma (1960), La domenica degli italiani (1961) with an introduction written by Ennio Flaiano, Il Gargano (1963). After her sudden death on March 1971, at the age of 46, her darkroom was dismantled and her negatives were lost. A few years ago, some original and unique prints were discovered by her son Daniele, who currently manages her archive.
