Italian, 1939

Giovanna Borgese was born in 1939 in Milan, and began taking photographs during her activity as an archaeologist. She then dedicated herself to photojournalism of current affairs, to Southern Italy, to industrial landscapes, and to portraits, collaborating with publishing houses and newspapers in Italy and abroad. She photographed the world of justice, represented in the book Un paese in tribunale – Italia 1980-1983 (1983). With Isabella Colonnello, she authored Dove era la fabbrica (1987) and I luoghi dei rifiuti (1989). With Paola Agosti, she authored Mi pare un secolo. Ritratti e parole di centosei protagonisti del Novecento (1992). She lives and works in Milan.
