ALAIN FLEISCHER

French, 1944

Born in Paris in 1944, Alain Fleischer grew up in a richly intellectual and culturally diverse household that nurtured a deep curiosity — one that led him to study everything from literature and semiotics to anthropology and animal biology. These wide-ranging interests became the backbone of an artistic career that blends photography, cinema, writing, and critical thought in ways few others manage.

In 1997 he has created, on commission by the French Ministry of Culture, Le Fresnoy – Studio National des Arts Contemporains in Tourcoing, an art center aimed to the development of artistic, audiovisual and digital projects and activities. His works are present in the most important museums, institutions and private collections around the world.

He lives in Paris and in Italy, near Rome, with his partner and muse Danielle.
